We had a major storm through here recently and we suffered damage to the house roof and ceilings. I just received the quote to repair. I’m hoping that a small fraction of the 80,000 odd people that download SDIO and/or Desktop Info every month won’t mind chipping in a few dollars to help out. Click on the big blue button at the bottom of the page to help us keep a roof over our heads, literally!

Hi @Glenn
I have a friend (who is French), who has a problem with the application.
When she launches the application, each time she gets a first window telling her that the Windows Defender firewall has blocked certain features on all public and private networks (first screenshot):
This is followed by the window listing all drivers (second screenshot):
She encountered the same problem on two different brands of computer (Médion and Acer), both running Windows 10, and performed the same operations, deleting the application and reinstalling it (after re-downloading it), and the problem is back?
As for the firewall, she checked private networks, then only public networks, then both boxes, and it didn't matter which box was checked?
Do you have any idea what might be causing these problems? Because we both don't know what to do with these problems that keep coming back.
Thank You in advance for your help.
The firewall usually comes up when a new version is first run. However once you click the allow button, it should record that and not prompt again. If the firewall pops up every time you run SDIO then the selection is not being recorded. You can look at the firewall rules to see if it has rules for SDIO.
Hi @Glenn
Thanks for your reply concerning the firewall, I'll pass on the information to the person concerned.
What about the second window showing the list of listed drivers?
I still don't understand why this person is having these problems, I've tested and I'm using SDIO on two different brand computers, a DELL and an HP, and I've never had such a problem... however I don't use Windows Defender.
Thank You again in advance
@jay-b The second window is the torrent download window which normally appears when you click the available updates bar at the top. I don't know why that would appear on it's own. Is this behaviour new in this version?
Hi @Glenn,
She was using the version R777, and had this problem. She updated SDIO via the UI, and this window still appeared. I had her delete the application and then download the latest version, which in turn had the same problem.
Thanks in advance
P.S.: As far as the firewall is concerned, that's now fixed.
I haven't been able to reproduce this. However you can disable the check for updates from the Options dialog or edit the sdio.cfg file with notepad.Hi @Glenn,

Hi @Glenn,
She checked the box that is in the screenshot in the previous post. Here's the result, the small window no longer appears when SDIO is launched, but the app takes a long time to start up.
I think I'll have her delete the app again, and then delete any entries there could be in the Registry that are related with SDIO?
I'll keep you informed of the result.
Thanks!
Yes, that box. I'm not aware that SDIO uses the registry. It is designed to be portable. If it takes a long time to start I'm suspecting an anti-virus may be interfering.Hi @Glenn,

Hi @Glenn,
Her only antivirus is Windows Defender.
And by the way, she thanks you for the time you're taking to try to solve her problem.
We haven't checked the Registry yet.
I'll keep you informed.
Thanks
