I’m building a plugin framework into Desktop Info. Anyone that can write a Win32 DLL can write a plugin. I’ve written a sample Delphi plugin and I’m about to try a C++ plugin.

If anyone is interested in trying this out before the next official release, let me know here.

EDIT: I just wrote a C++ plugin and it worked just fine but it also highlighted the fact that because the EXE is 32-bit, the DLL must also be 32-bit. I wonder if this is unduly restricting?

Well I’ve talked myself out of it because of the 32 bit limitation. I’m thinking in terms of independent programs and named pipes. This has the advantage of 32-bit or 64-bit, separate process, local or remote machine and other stuff.
