We had a major storm through here recently and we suffered damage to the house roof and ceilings. I just received the quote to repair. I’m hoping that a small fraction of the 80,000 odd people that download SDIO and/or Desktop Info every month won’t mind chipping in a few dollars to help out. Finding information on SamLab is difficult.

Who/what is SamLab?

Where is SamLab located physically?  Where is SamLab on the web?

What does SamLab get for doing these driver packs?  What is in it for SamLab?  Surely, SamLab does not do this out of the kindness of their hearts.

Big question:  Can SamLab be trusted? Recent events indicate more scrutiny is needed regarding these driver packs.

What assurances are there regarding the integrity of these driver packs?

Are the driver packs checked for malware?  If so, by whom?

Yes, I know there are restore points as part of a recovery process, but what if you are doing a number of machines and only discover later that there was something wrong with a driver or it is a virus/malware?

While SDIO is open source and users can be reasonably assured of it being free of malware and spam, it is not the case of the driver packs.  The lack of information on SamLab only adds to the distrust.

SamLab, at this point and without assurances as to safety and quality, are the weak link in SDIO.

@glenn  I am disappointed that my questions have not been addressed.  As I said, the origin of these driver packs, on a .WS website, in Russian, creates a certain amount of distrust.  You talk about SDIO being free from malware, spam, etc, but you do address the origin of these driver packs.

As I said, the driver packs are the weak link in SDIO.

I do not have a problem using tools from other countries.  And, I have contributed to one of my tools from a provider in Russia, as well as SDIO.  I contribute to software which I consider valuable and worth using.  Howerer, I am losing confidence in SDIO, particularly because a lack of response from you regarding legitimate concerns about these driver packs.  Without them, SDIO would not work.  With them, some assurances from you would go a long way.
