I thought I found a lighter program to replace CORETEMP.
It's called PCMETER and was a CORETEMP replacement on the old CPU Meter gadget.

I'm giving up because I see PCMETER uses more memory that CORETEMP.
it seems to be a plugin for that cpu meter thing but is somehow connected with openhardwaremonitor.org. if you check out that tool, they have a wmi data interface that you can use with Desktop Info.
