Description

A tool to access internet whois and reverse dns information from Windows with
configurable hosts and recursive queries to provide complete domain
registration and dns information.

WhoIs has dual functionality; if you type in a domain name, a whois lookup is
performed, if you type in a valid dotted quad IP address, a reverse dns lookup
is performed followed by a whois lookup on any name server returned.

In domain name mode, WhoIs attempts to connect to the configured host and
collect information for the desired secondary domain name. If the host has
instructions for further searches, WhoIs will continue searching. By default
the host is whois.internic.net. An alternative host is whois.crsnic.net. You
can change the host and connection timeout value on the Options page. This is
saved in the whois.ini file when you close the application.

Just type in the domain name you want information on and press Enter or click
the Go button. The first page displays a summary of the returned information
which consists of just the actual domain info. The entire text returned by the
host is displayed on the second page.

In dotted quad mode, WhoIs attempts to connect to the configured host and
collect information for the desired IP address. If the host has instructions
for further searches, WhoIs will continue searching. If it gets a positive
result it will then attempt a whois lookup. By default the host is
a.root-servers.net. You can change the host on the Options page. This is saved
in the whois.ini file when you close the application.

For both search modes, where the host name or name server is retrieved and
the top level domain represents a geographical location, this is also
displayed. The top level domains are stored in the text file tld.txt. You can
add or modify this as needed to keep it up to date.
